When Barangay Ginebra faced off against Bay Area over the weekend, Justin Brownlee of Barangay Ginebra felt as though he was already donning the colors of the national team.
He started the game strong, scoring 46 points and contributing to the Gin Kings’ dominance against the Dragons, which resulted in a 111-93 victory for the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings.
“I suppose there is a driving force. They are now regarded as the best squad in the league. It was 4-0. We simply want to come out and play with intensity, give them a good game, and try to put the majority of our attention on improving our defense “Following their victory, Brownlee, who was one of the contenders for Gilas Pilipinas, said the following.
Bay Area had won their previous four matches before falling to Barangay Ginebra, defeating Blackwater, NorthPort, Phoenix Fuel LPG, and Converge.
However, the Kings were able to capitalize on a window of opportunity in the second half and cruise to an 18-point victory by suffocating the Dragons with their defense.
“Just representing the league and the Philippines was all I was doing there. They are a fantastic team of guests. We just aim to be good representatives of our league and compete to our full potential “according to Brownlee.
Brownlee is a strong contender to become a naturalized player for the Gilas squad; however, Congress has not yet approved his application to become a naturalized citizen.
Sen. Francis Tolentino made an appeal to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to hasten the process by submitting the required documentation to get the naturalization procedure underway.
