Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), said on Tuesday that the Philippines will send 814 participants to the 32nd SEA Games, which will be held in Cambodia from May 5 to May 16 of the next year.

At the conclusion of the second consultation meeting with SEA Games-bound National Sports Associations (NSAs), which took place at the East Ocean Garden Restaurant in Pasay City, Tolentino stated, “It’s again a fighting team, and the goal is to send the best full contingent as possible.”

The POC had a meeting with authorities from combat sports or martial arts the week before, and on Monday they held another meeting, which was joined by representatives from ball games and other sports.

SEA Games

Baseball president Chito Loyzaga, who was designated Team Philippines chef de mission to the Cambodia SEA Games, as well as his deputies Leonora Escollante of canoe kayak and Paolo Tancongquian of sambo were both present during both of the sessions.

There is a total of 608 gold medals up for grabs in the 49 different sports that are scheduled to take place at the Cambodia SEA Games.

The following are the total number of participants for each sport: arnis (12), athletics (47), aquatics (39), badminton (16), basketball (32), bodybuilding (15), billiards (12), boxing (11), dancesports (12), esports (45), fencing (24), fin swimming (9), aerobics and artistic gymnastics (13), jet ski (8), obstacle sports (20), sailing (8), triathlon (10), diving (2), bodybuilding (15), cycling (28), weightlifting ( (20).

Ouk Chatrang, which is also a form of Khmer chess, and Kun Bokator, a form of martial arts that was practiced by ancient Khmer military, have been included in the competition because Cambodia is the host country for the event. These two provide a total of 21 and six gold medals, respectively.

The 2019 SEA Games in Manila featured the largest number of events across its 56 sports. In comparison, the Brunei Games of 1999 only had 233 competitions across 22 sports while the Vietnam Games of 2022 will feature 526 events over 40 sports.
